Short answer
An AI-readable website puts what you do, what it costs, and how to reach you in plain text and structured data, and doesn't block AI crawlers. Most small business sites miss at least one of those, usually because content loads with JavaScript or lives inside images.
What the checker looks at
- Readable without JavaScript. Many AI crawlers read only the page's HTML. If your content loads with scripts, they see a blank page.
- AI crawlers allowed. Your robots.txt can block GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended. Blocked means never cited.
- Structured data. schema.org JSON-LD tells engines who you are, what you sell, and where, without guessing.
- Title, description, and one main heading. The basics search results and AI summaries quote first.
- Answers to common questions. FAQ content in plain text is what assistants lift into their answers.
- Contact details, hours, and prices as text. Text inside an image is invisible. 'Are they open?' and 'how much?' need text answers.
- Sitemap, share tags, image descriptions, HTTPS, mobile. The housekeeping that helps every page get found and summarized well.
Fix it this afternoon

Straight answers.
What does it mean for a website to be AI-readable?
It means assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews can fetch the page, read what the business does, and quote facts like prices, hours, and services. Most of them read plain HTML and structured data, and many don't run JavaScript.
Why would ChatGPT not know about my business?
Common reasons: your robots.txt blocks AI crawlers, your content loads with JavaScript so crawlers see an empty page, key facts live inside images, or there's no structured data saying who you are and what you sell.
Does this checker store my website or my data?
It reads your homepage once, the same way a crawler would, and shows the results. Results are cached for 30 minutes so repeat checks are fast. Nothing about you is stored, and there's no sign-up.
Is a high score a guarantee of being cited by AI?
No. It means nothing technical is in the way. Being cited also depends on how useful and specific your content is and how often others mention you. The score removes the barriers you control.
